Marcus Crawford attended Floyd Middle Magnet School which is one of the superior middle schools of Montgomery Public Schools majoring in the studies of math, science, and technology. While there, he became an active member of the Technology Student Association taking part in competitions on local, state, and national levels. During his first year Marcus was awarded first place in the dragster design competition at the state level and went on to compete in nationals. In 2006 he received the Alabama Willie Harris TSA Student of the Year Award. From 2003 to 2006 he was a member of the National Junior Honors Society and had a poem published in the 2006 edition of the Teacher's Selection: Anthology of Eight Grade Poetry.
As time continued and his years at Floyd came to an end, Marcus continued in the magnet program entering into Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School. While here at Brewbaker Tech. he flourished in the fields of academics and also in engineering design. Along with excelling in advance placement and college preparatory classes, Marcus says he found himself part of many projects and influential organizations. In his junior year, he participated in NASA's HUNCH Program serving as the head draftsman. In that program Marcus developed and produced 2D along with 3D AutoCAD drawings provided by NASA with full dimensioning.
In the following year, Marcus was part of another project where he and two other senior classmates designed and developed floor plans using AutoCAD 2010 for the city of Montgomery. This project involved converting current duplexes into single living spaces for lower and middle class families using the current floor plans and photos. As this year is coming to a close, three of my classmates and I are working with a new program, AutoCAD's Revit, where we are constructing a house in 3D and creating a PowerPoint to instruct others, including our teacher, how to operate the program.
In addition to the activities of the Engineering Academy, Marcus is the president of Mu Alpha Theta and active member of numerous honors organizations such as the National Honors Society and The National Society of High School Scholars; and an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Along with these accomplishments and honors Marcus said that he has had the privilege of playing two years of varsity soccer and three years of basketball, one junior varsity and two varsity.
Marcus has been accepted to attend Auburn University and will major in Industrial Design. Following college he plans to either enter the Air Force or serve pursue a career in the field of aerospace engineering.
